Adolescent
Outpatient Services
This
program is for adolescents who have progressed past experimental
use and who are abusing or possibly dependent on alcohol
and/or another drug. There begins to be a pattern of
use and the adolescent seeks the high or altered mood
to cope or escape. Eventually, there is a preoccupation
with the mood change.
Consequences
begin to increase and may include health problems, falling
grades, family conflict, and/or involvement with the
judicial system. Tolerance increases so that the adolescent
must use more and more of the drug to get the same effect.
The
Treatment Program usually involves
two weekly group sessions (one
educational and one process-oriented),
one
weekly individual session and family sessions as needed.
Length of treatment is variable
based on progress and participation.
As
with all our treatment programs, we encourage as much
family involvement as possible.
We refer all parents/caretakers to our Family Program so
that they can learn what the signs and symptoms of use are,
how to set limits and boundaries, open lines of communication,
and how their loved one's use has affected them.
